Introduction

If you are new to the world of Internet Marketing then this might be a new phrase in your online education.  If you have been around for a while, then it most certainly will not be.

It is a term used when you see something, usually a product inviting you to buy, advising you that it is the best thing since sliced bread.  You are told that you will make your fortune when you buy and download the product, or system possibly even an E Book, sometimes a piece of software, which will make life simpler whilst you run your business more effectively.

Whatever you are offered it is designed to make you a lot of money, undreamed of riches is one phrase that I have seen. (Usually it is the seller that will make the money) In fairness if used some offers can in fact make you money, or enable you to have the right tools to do so.

This article is intended both as a friendly warning to avoid you wasting your hard earned cash, also to explain how you can easily fill your hard drive with what I call dust gathering items, as having bought them you do not use them.

Writing an article like this can in fact lead to the writer being either over critical or under critical depending on his experience when they have bought a product.

The Facts

Not for one minute am I suggesting that what you are offered is a fake or a scam, what I am saying is please be aware that those advertising their amazing product, are after one thing, that is to make money. After all they are in business.

Internet marketing is powerful. But the idea here is not to be blinded by dollar signs and buy into the hype of lounging by the pool at the Playboy Mansion. Be smart about this – this is a business, not a lottery ticket. Build it right, and you won’t have to fear that the bottom will drop out from under you one day when you least expect it.

I now have some simple rules when I am buying products or other items which are offered to me.

1. Will I use it in my business, or can I find a use for it?
2. Can I afford it.
3. Will it be cost effective?
4. What are the conditions regarding its use?

Usually the product in question has to answer YES to all the four rules above.

Also you need to be aware that once you have agreed to purchase what is offered, then you almost certainly be lured into the sales funnel.  This is usually one or more ‘Upsell Offers’.   These, increase the effectiveness of what you have just bought they can include many things such as:

Extra Bonuses

Private Label Rights, not just personal use.

Unlimited Access, the original offer might be for say twelve downloads a month, must confess these annoy me, as often on the original offer there is no mention of any limitations.  Not all vendors do this of course, some do make it quite clear what you are buying.

Must confess that I do not usually pay attention to the Bonuses that are on offer, unless:

They can be used to enhance the product or one that I already have

They can be given away to my subscribers or to help me build my list.

However the rights are very important to me for a number of reasons.

Private Label Rights (commonly known as PLR) are vital to me, if I cannot alter the product the chances are that I will click the delete button, it is important to me that I can make the product my own, with my own words and thoughts.

I have recently purchased a number of items as a special offer, at least twenty of them I will be able to amend and use on the website, it was a very good deal which covers my four rules.

Another recent purchase makes my library of content sufficient for at least the next twelve months, this means that I can just work on what I have without the need for any further expense.

This to me is how we should spend our money – WISELY

Conclusion

Just in case it is not obvious, like a lot of people I was an avid collector of “Silver Dollar Offers”, the reasons were many, but most importantly I think that the idea of making a quick buck was probably at the back of my mind.  A trait often found when you are new to internet marketing,

As a result I have a large number of products which I have bought over the years on the hard drive, gathering the proverbial dust.

I notice that I have said have, in fact whilst I did have is not quite right, the number is a lot lower, due to a massive clear up campaign. It became obvious to me that I was buying all sorts of stuff and not using them. In many cases I did not even attempt to unzip them to find out what they did.

OK I WAS A FOOL

Which I suppose is the main purpose of this blog to stop you doing the same, though I would suggest that you are not that stupid, having taken the offer of a free website.

Before I decided that I would load this onto the website, I spent some time looking through what I had on my hard drive.  To my astonishment when I opened up some files, I discovered on awful lot of material which I was not aware of.

OK, these must have been silver dollar moments, but I will be able to update and use a lot of them now that I am a lot wiser.

INTRODUCTION

Believe it or not there is actually no easy way to be successful.

You can only achieve success by hard work, with  everything that you do you must give  100% of your effort.

You must remain persistent, but you still have to be flexible.

All successful entrepreneurs  are continually learning, adapting when they gain new information which could prove to be useful.  At the same time you have to learn to remain persistent to whatever you or your Company’s Mission is.

You must have passion for whatever business you are involved in.

Passion is a requirement that is needed for what you are trying to accomplish, you must be willing to sacrifice everything if you wish to make your dream come true.

You must stay focused on your goal.

Eliminate wasted effort and distraction, by focusing intensely on an opportunity, that others see as nothing, will eliminate distractions and effort being wasted.

Execute your plan by taking action.

Sometimes it is difficult to assess how success arrives at your door step, or in our case at the business.   It is not some magic moment, but usually through execution of a flawless plan.  Instead of daydreaming about your plan you need to take action.

Instead of trusting your spreadsheet, trust your gut instead.

This may cause you to raise your eyebrows, but think about it, spreadsheets are often based on your assumptions, which are often inaccurate, which gives you a false sense of security.

Reached a milestone? Then celebrate it.

To achieve success means travelling a long hard road, this is why you must focus on the journey which you have undertaken, celebrating the milestones as you achieve them.  This also ensures that you remain focused on your goals.

You must embrace honesty and integrity.

It should be obvious but these two qualities must be at the centre of everything that you do, no matter what else comes along.

Do not be held back by fear.

When you are running a business you need to take risks.  It is almost certain that you will fail if you let your worries stop you from taking action.

You must rely on your Team

As good as you might be, or think that you are, you still cannot be good at everything.  You will need to find people who can complement your strengths, whilst helping with your weaknesses.

Be thorough with your research.

One of the main reasons that newly set up businesses fail is that they are not really suitable for their particular market.  To stand a chance of success you need to identify the market place for your product, then decide how you can quickly and efficiently reach your customers.

The Twenty Percent Factor.

This rule applies to both your personal and your business life, to achieve eighty percent of your efforts, you should always focus on twenty percent.

The service that you provide MUST be amazing.

Do not just concentrate on selling products to your list.  Engage with them. Give them ideas, build up a rapport. Customer service is not only important, but vital if you are to succeed online.

Never stop learning.

Despite the number of years that I have personally been online, I continue on a weekly basis to upgrade my knowledge of online marketing, see the next idea.

Build up your own reference library, this will enable you to have somewhere to search for information and ideas when the need arises.  Over the years I have been offered a number of books covering a range of subjects, usually free, these go into my reference library, as I never know when I am likely to need them.

Have a break to recharge your batteries.

I do not mean go for a walk or sit and have a cup of tea, rather jump in the car if you have a partner take them out for the day, get away from the desk and computer.  Doing this on occasions, will enable you to work both harder and smarter when needed.

Take time to read

If you read a lot of different successful authors you can learn by their mistakes, as well as gaining useful information and ideas into how they became successful.

Should you have any do not neglect your employees.

Without happy employees you will never have happy customers.  Remember to always treat them with respect and look after them.

Be ready for change

A method or product that has worked well in the past may not always continue to do so, be prepared to change or adapt to the market place quickly.

When you need to raise money, raise more than you think you will need.

When working out your plans to raise capital, aim to raise double your estimate and also double the amount of time that you expect it to take.

Return help and favours.

During your journey you will no doubt receive help, advice and other useful pointers from a number of people, do not hesitate in turn to do the same when you can to others who may need it.

Daily E Mails

These can cause you to waste a lot of time away from your business.  You need to have a system to deal with them.  Personally I give them a quick look first thing, leave what needs answering, deleting the rest.  I repeat this at lunchtime and in the evening.  This is when I reply to any that need it.  I find that this way I do not usually have too many to wade through at any one time.

This is very personal to me, before I begin work I spend around five minutes doing a word puzzle, mine is on the computer, it helps to focus both my mind and brain before I begin to work for the day.

It would just be a matter of figuring out what those people were doing and then adapting it to my situation.
